This shooting star was captured during the Perseid Meteor Shower on 12 August 2012 from Leiden, The Netherlands
Every year in mid August Earth moves into a cloud of debris originating from a comet. Meteorit particles as big as few millimetres entering the atmosphere cause the surrounding air to chemically dissociate and ionize and causing it to emit intensive radiation. This is what we call the meteor. They appear to emanate from the constellation Perseus. Hence the mid August meteor shower is coined the Perseids.
